Dish Playmaker RV Satellite
« on: September 09, 2019, 04:05:59 PM »
So, my nephew got a new camper and it came with a dish playmaker for RVs. He gave it to me since he doesn't have Dish Network. I have a few questions. Do I need to take my own receiver from the house to hook up to the dish when out with my RV? Not sure if I need to buy another receiver or if there is one in the box, and silly me I have not even looked. Any tips on these mobile dish setups would be appreciated!

Tip #1 You are camping, dont watch TV  :chuckle:
To hunt and butcher an animal is to recognize that meat is not some abstract form of protein that springs into existence tightly wrapped in cellophane and styrofoam.

I just purchased this package myself.  I don't know if you can take your home receiver with you or not, the RV package is for the RV'er, in that is isn't a full time service unless you so schedule it.  It was brought to market for the part timers so they could buy their entertainment by the month.  I got mine for my fifth wheel and also plan to use it at camp for Monday, Thursday and Sunday night football, unfortunately, I still love my football.

The set-up.  You will probably have to call Dish to see if you can use your home receiver, I don't know that you will be able to, their RV packages are something like $40, $75, $85. $100 a month depending on what you want.  If just for a Cougs game it is going to be a high price point for just one game.  The set up is very easy and this unit is completely automatic.  It scans the southern sky and finds the signals and locks in.  It does however take quite a bit of time to download programing and the rest of the brains of the system. After all that is done then you have to call to "activate" the service, it is logged to the serial numbers of the dish, receiver and the chipped card in the receiver.  I think the overall set up took about 30 minutes.  It is pretty sweet if you want to have the service, but it isn't cheap.  I live in a heavily treed property and Direct TV said last year I had ZERO chance of success at my house,..... well, this little gizmo worked at my house through the trees just fine and I watched Thursday night football in my shop.

Hope this helps some.

Works great, especially if you're already a DISH subscriber.  If so, it's only another $10 a month extra receiver fee.  I have an older model that I found on Craig's List for $50.  Bought a new receiver for about $100 on Amazon (doesn't work with my Hopper and Joeys) and have been up and running for a couple of years now.
