Gohunt is good for that, super easy to search for draw odds at every point interval.  You could put in 3 points and at least 30% odds of drawing (for example) and it will show you what units fit the bill.

If you aren't at the top of the points pile for the super max tags, you will never get there.  It's a simple fact but people keep trying.  Maybe something will change, but if I was in search of one of those tags, I would take all that money, put it in a savings account every year and plan on buying a landowner tag in NM or someplace like that in 10-15 years.

After a long hiatus from Utah, I jumped in a few years ago with the idea that I'll go hunt general mule deer every few years.  Once I'm doing that and buying the license, cheap enough to try and win the lottery on all the others.

Now I'm second guessing myself, I've wanted out of the points game here in wa and now I want to start all over in another state at almost 50 years old?  I'm thinking I'll just pass, Idaho will be my go to non resident hunt, with no points game to play I'll feel much better about it.  I do appreciate all the help though and wish you guys lots of luck!  Those permits looks crazy hard to draw, I hope your all young guys with lots of time to kill.

The only reason I get an elk point is because it is $5 after I apply for Bison.  I think even then I am probably just throwing $5 away.

All of mine were $10 each

Yeah, maybe I told my wife it was only $5.   :chuckle:  Better keep my stories straight.

Utah has been one of those states I’ve been avoiding, I think my mindset on it was mostly colored by the fact that Utah is the motherland for all anti public land and anti North American model policies. Then a buddy texted me the other day asking me how the Utah draw worked for deer. I looked into the general deer hunts and the prices and at that point I almost couldn’t help but jump in. Utah has the cheapest points in the West, if I figure I spent $155 for 9 points this year and I spend another $90 for 9 points next year they come out to about $13.61 each, now if I play my cards right I might get lucky and hit an OIL tag at some point in my life and if not I should be able to grab a general deer tag any year I feel like, probably do 1 or 2 pronghorn tags and a couple of lower tier LE deer and elk tags before I’m too old to do this anymore(I’ve probably got at least 35 good years left in me). When I compare it to my choice to jump into Nevada’s points game 2 years ago I feel much better about Utah actually, in Nevada I got 4 points last year and each one cost me $51.25, I’m hoping that this year with their new 365 day license I’ll be able to grab points without paying the $155 license but I don’t think it’s gonna work. If so I’ll probably ditch Nevada as the sunk cost will just be too much for me to justify

A Wa guy that I went to the Expo with drew the Manti early rifle elk in the raffle.  I’m not into elk, but hear that’s a pretty good tag.

I think you're thinking about NV.  I have wrote down that CC's started getting hit 5-9-18 last year in UT.

Everything that twitches basically.   Mostly just banking points but.....someone has to win it right?

I think I have 20 moose and deer points.
