Moose hunting in AK, BC, or AB?

As you discovered, you need a guide in Canada.   You don't in AK, but on the flip side of that, unless you are an experienced woodsman, Id be hesitant to do AK DIY.  Its real up there.
For the states, Idaho is your best bet.  I pulled the first year I applied and so did my Dad.   The way their draw system works with OIL, the odds of drawing are way better.
