Idaho elk
« on: April 24, 2019, 09:21:48 AM »
I am heading to unit 14 Idaho for deer this year hunting on private and public land. I am debating about buying the elk city elk b tag for the area as wel any thoughts if that is a good idea or more of a waste of time?

Are you planning to hunt whitetail or muleys?

Most likely white tail unless I draw the mule deer tag. We are going opening day of deer season for 6 days as that is the only time I could get off work.

It depends on what you want out of the hunt.  6 days for both deer and elk is going to be hard to fill both for sure.  If you can afford to and won't care about possibly wasting the extra $3-400 then go for it.    :twocents:

It’s never a waste of time to elk hunt. If you aren’t going to elk hunt and just focus on deer then you have to weigh the disappointment of having a chance encounter without a tag or the disappointment of spending $400 or so and not even trying to use it.

If I wanted to deer hunt I would Not buy an elk tag, because if I had an elk tag I would start elk hunting and would forget about the deer.

Great point thank you for all the feedback I’m thinking I will just focus 100% on deer.
Focus on getting a buck over there.

Good luck on filling both tags. But it has been of my experience that when you don’t have a tag, is when they show up.

Elk City B tags are currently sold out. There are still Elk City A tags available. If there are any unsold outfitter tags, I believe you can buy them beginning Aug 1st.
