Well my advice is just what I've read and from talking to a few folks as I have yet to start exploring various waters.  Quite a few guys are catching Pike and Smallies.  I would try Killarnet for Pike and Cocolalla lake for Smallies.  There is also supposed to be channel catfish in Cocolalla.  I did see photos of some nice perch taken out of Cocolalla.

With or Without a Boat and what species?  Spirt and Twin are good lakes just north of Post Falls.  Planter Trout, kokanee in Spirt, pan fish and bass it both.   No boat I would say Fernan it is planted with trout.   Hauser can put out some fish from shore as well

I'd look at Hayden or Fernan for standard trout fishing.  I've never done it but I would really like to try for pike on the south end of Cd'A

Oh I forgot about tactics.  When my kids were little a wedding ring and a piece of warm would provide enough perch and bluegill to keep them happy.  Upper twin has a fair Crappie population as well.  I am a fly guy, myself, a middle sinking line with a brown leach pattern works well.

Newman is another option.

There are definitely cats in there. I've caught plenty on bass gear. Actually caught way more LM than SM in that lake.
