Easy Cow Elk?
« on: May 04, 2019, 07:38:01 AM »
I hate asking these questions, how easy/enjoyable is the balckrock or pine mountain cow tags? Is it a slam dunk? Mydad has 20 cow points and wants meat, without having to kill himself. Thanks in advance.

Have you looked at the success rates for that tag?  If they are high over 60% then probably a slam dunk, the terrain will dictate how hard the hunt might be.

Pine mountain can be pretty hilly depending on where you find then and if the access road is snowed over and you have to walk in.  They only give 2 tags, so even with 20 points the odds of drawing aren't stellar.  It isn't steep and deep, but it isn't flat either.

Stats dont tell the story. If tools get a tag and dont get one, then it wil be zero percent success for one tag. We have killed alot of elk and hunt hard....just prefer not to.

Easy is a depredation hunt with a cooperative land owner with a tractor or a winch with a mile or two of cable.  Any draw tag will be some where between and including slide her off the bank into the truck or did not save her because of scavengers or heat.  Good luck!!!
