Finally 20+ years of work have paid off!
« on: June 15, 2019, 09:02:13 AM »
I have been meaning to post this for a while but recently I finally did it. I have been walleye fishing my whole life. I have been seriously walleye fishing for over 20 years. Until the other day I had never caught a walleye over 10 LBS. in the past 2 weeks I caught a 12 Lb(ish) walleye and this 13LB 10OZ walleye. I have been so disgusted for the past 3 or so years watching guide boats killing every walleye they hook and overfishing some of our favorite recreational fishing holes that I have stopped sharing where I am fishing. Sorry, Not sorry.

Fished for 20+ years never caught one over 10lbs.  And the last 3 years they have been getting over fished.  But in the last 2 weeks you have caught your 2 biggest walleye?  Hmmmmmm.

Just finally hooked up to the right fish, these are also the only 2 walleye I have caught since memorial weekend.

Ive never gotten a 10+lb walleye.

I had a weird day in May of 1994. Previous to that day my biggest walleye had measured 28 inches. That day I only caught 4 walleye but each was over 28 inches with the biggest I believe topping 33 inches if I remember right. Memorable day.

Congratulations! Fighting a big fish is always a good time.  As for your disgust at the killing of the walleye the guide catch, remember these are an invasive species and are to salmon and steelhead fishermen what the wolves are to WA hunters.  If it weren't for these fish and a bunch of other contributing factors, you might have been showing us a photo of a 20+lb King salmon.  Keep catching those and eat every one you can! :chuckle:

I was going to try to eat wolf tenderloins if we ran across any on my Wyoming trip last fall just to say I had but all we found were elk.

Good for you.  not the best eating size.  Snap a picture, and let them grow bigger, and have lots of babies.
