Ohop is on my b-back list from my County Challenge last year! Cool lake, will probably go back in the Fall or rain so there's fewer/no skiers  :yike:

Just be off the lake by 11 in the morning that's when the skiers and pwc come on and drive like real aholes :bash: I live less then 500 yards off the lake and I avoid it after 11 just because I'd prefer not to have a physical altercation after having my boat swamped with my 2 young boys and wife in the boat. I even have a buddy that had go pros running on his boat and had a pwc messing with him, at full speed passed so close to his boat that it ripped a pole holder and pole off his boat all on video. Fishing is good but be prepared

How's the trout fishing been the last few years out there? I understand that the state has done some major cut backs on this lake in particular for stocking.

Dismal trout fishing for the most part. Maybe 3 fish a day the last few years trolling around

Nice delicious bass!

Water on that lake is kinda nasty, at least it was when I was there. The bad thing about bass is they taste like their environment, better to eat one out of a clear water lake, especially if it's primary forage is trout! Also, the 1.5lb and under bass have better flavor, anything over 3lbs tastes too fatty. I prefer smallmouth overall for fish and chips!   :twocents:

Yeah that's what I figured. It used to be an awesome lake that I grew up fishing. Last few years haven't really spent anytime out there for a lot of reasons. Sad to hear its going downhill for trout. I have so many memories out there. But many fisheries in Pierce county have had a lot of changes in recent years.

Looking in his well worn tackle box, Dad said "Why don't you drag one of these old Soft-hackle Flies behind the boat," (as we rowed over to our favorite spot on Ohop). Half way across I was suddenly convinced it was the right thing to do, when fishing for trout in the fall.  :yike:

If your fishing for food on ohop ( which I do frequently) best you can do is some slab crappie about 9" and they make up some dandy fish and chips! :IBCOOL:

Norman89,You're right, we used to compete with a family of Otters, fishing the Lilly Pads on the South End of Ohop, the Crappie are real Slabs in there. (The Red Rock Bass are pretty nice sized too!)
P.S. When you fry up those Crappie Fillet's, don't forget to cut off and batter up their "Tail's" too for a Crispy Crunchy Tasty Treat....No Kidding..... (HEY MIKEY, HE LIKES IT!)

Got a late start this morning, bass and crappie bite was slow but me and the boys slayed the perch! They fry up pretty tasty too 👌
