Weather for grouse?
« on: September 06, 2019, 12:29:44 PM »
This coming week looks to have scattered showers 40%-ish in the mountains east of the Cascades. Nearly statewide? Is it worth it to still kick some bushes in weather like this? Scare up some birds? I don't have dogs. Just me. Thoughts?

I think its the best weather :twocents: It's been so dry I haven't seen many birds out in places you always see a few.

For me, I have always liked dry weather the best.  All you have to do in find a spring and you know there will be birds.  If its wet them seem to be spread out.

Showery weather is the best! In my opinion.

They still have to eat and get grit like they do everyday, they will move less though and will roost up longer and hold, look for them in the lower tree branches or under trees...
To hunt and butcher an animal is to recognize that meat is not some abstract form of protein that springs into existence tightly wrapped in cellophane and styrofoam.

We found some on the opener tucked into wet areas. Last night went out and saw only 1 going to my areas I usually limit out at. On the drive to work today in the drizzle I saw 2 in the road. Personally, I like the coastal like weather for grouse. Seems to bring em out into clearings and roads
May my presence go unnoticed, may my shot be true, may the blood trail be short.

Amen

Showers are great hunting. They will be all over the roads between squalls. Saw a ton this morning.

Ditto what others have said. Light rain is good, and i have found light misty rain/fog even better. Seems to keep them in the openings and roads more or longer

Been a long time since I a actually targeted those goofy birds but ya, they seem to stream out into shooting zones after a rain  ;)
