Nate strikes again!
My son shot this big cow elk with his bow. Glad to have this great meat for our family.

Nate and his buddies from Full Draw Outdoors have hit it hard the last week. Two others got cows in the last week also. They spotted his elk in a creek bottom and he stalked 200 yds making a perfect shot at the edge of his effective range, putting her down right away. Wife and I were out of town so he called sharing the news. His group rallied and got it all out that night.

Had a pretty good few days of elk hunting, found one that gave away his position and moved in really aggressively on him (he didn’t want to come out) I pretty much ran in calling and breaking brush. Caught a few glimpses of him as he retreated. Kept after them calling like a rut crazed bull. I thought this was the bull right up to about 2 seconds before I released my arrow, seen it was a cow and was fine with that. She ran 20 yards and stopped, wobbly legs for a  second and tipped over in sight.

Nice cow harvested Dec 6 and my cousin got a 3 point from same group 5 minutes later. Only pic was of hanging cow in garage. Pretty good season this year, lots of opportunities and finally got this one after cat and mouse with the herd in timber for 1.5 hours before a suitable shot at 55 yds.

Is it just me or has it been very quiet for elk this year? I am not seeing a lot of posts.

Most of the people I talked to said they thought it was really slow.  Not just seeing less elk, but fewer tracks, rubs, sign, etc.  Over the summer, there seemed to be lots of activity seen by scouting and trail cams.  The bowhunters I talked to said there were more people in the early seasons (in the GMUs I go to) than they had ever seen before and really put some pressure on the elk.   :dunno:  By the time muzzy rolled around, seemed like they were still in hiding.  When muzzy ended, I saw more deer hunters going in than I've ever seen (in GMUs that have real low deer harvest rates).  The rifle elk guys that stayed the whole season were doing some fishing since the elk were being so slow.  All I saw, early and late combined were a couple 4 pts, a 2 pt and a spike.
