Late Season Elk Technical Question
« on: November 08, 2019, 11:49:35 AM »
I have permission to hunt with my son on approximately 200 Acres. The land owner killed a five-by-five that was bugling still and had some cows on Wednesday. There is still another Bull in there as of this morning he was bugling a little bit and answered to our cow calls twice before we had to go to school. I've never hunted late-season elk at all let alone a bull that's bugling in November. Should we stick to cow calls or should I bugle at him tonight? He wouldn't commit this morning and we were already late to school so we backed out.

if it were me, and depending on the landscape, I would let the bugle tell me where he is and then try to sneak in and kill him  :twocents:

I would use the cow calls to get him to bugle and then try to close the distance.  If he is not on the 200 acres and you are trying to pull him in I would just cow call.  I don't think he is going to come in for a fight at this point.

Good luck and I hope you get him.
Pain is temporary, achieving the goal is worth it.

I didn't say it would be easy, I said it would be worth it.

Scotch broom edges and semi open reprod with open areas but my boy isn't taller than most of the brush until we are in the openings. I was afraid of getting busted this morning trying to work in to a area that my boy might be able to see from so we left.

You aren't gonna get a bugle response this late more than likely......I'd cow call it in while using spot and stalk.try to sound a few cows but don't over do it.You can throw a small bugle in with some cow calls but don't expect a bugle back.More likely you will hear him walking when he gets close.Good luck, wish we could find some private like that near randle/Packwood.Getting my disabled butt kicked out here.
