Hey there folks, got time for a quick check in here-

It's been a bunch of fun meeting up with you all

A bit of good news - I traded some prawns to my scallop guy and got another case out of him.  I have about 20# left out of that one after taking care of a few guys that I had to turn down earlier.  I'll have them on the truck with me on the way back from Portland if anybody on that route is interested.

Thanks for all the support of a small-time fisherman fellas!
what is your path home? How much are the scallops?

Bering Sea Weathervane Scallops, 20-30 count

If you've had weathervane scallops before, you know what the big deal is.  I've only had them a few times the whole time I've been fishing, and it's always been because a diver friend decided to share.  Pic for size reference.   You can buy cheaper scallops, but those are usually smaller bay scallops from the east coast, or even scallops they farm and soak with phosphates to increase the water retention  :o.    These Weathervanes are a very limited availability product.  I was offered a couple of cases in this size and that's all I get for the year.  Order soon if you want some.

The Weathervane Scallops are priced at $21.50/#, or $20/# for a 5# bag.

@skillet We enjoyed the crab for lunch today and it was superb!  Thanks again and I'll be into the other stuff soon.  Merry Christmas!

Arguably the best king crab I have ever sourced locally, as we ate most of it last night. By all means, grab the rest of his scallops, superb as anticipated, just flip them a little quicker than I did. As always, thanks Skillet and everyone have a great Christmas.

I got 12 pounds of the crab clusters and a bunch of hungry people coming over for Christmas.

I assume boiling them is the ticket?

How long, since they are pre-cooked?

I put them in a roasting pan tightly covered with foil with 1/2 to 3/4 C water @ 375 for 15-20 minutes.
HIGHLY recommend following Skillet's suggestion to split the shells prior to cooking/serving. A little prior work makes it much more enjoyable.

GREAT TIP.   Thanks.

Now I have to figure out how to pre-split them.

Any tips for a King Crab newbie are appreciated.

I used a pair of kitchen shears last night. Worked awesome and a must do thing.  They were absolutely delish, and very filling.

That's what I would do, might be hard to split the shells frozen?
I would also suggest a clean glove of sorts on the hand when splitting the shells. I actually broke all the leg segments apart before splitting.
Easier to work with but screws up the presentation. If you go this route, be careful that you don't pull the meat out of the shell when separating segments. Pinch the meat so it stays in the shell and the cartilage comes free. Start at the end and work towards the body, then trim any remaining cartilage. The heating/steaming suggestion above is just going to warm them up, it's important that you don't "cook" them. Enjoy.
