Ok Question
How may of you target white tailed in Montana? I am on the fence. I will be trying to get a Montana Deer tag. I love mule deer hunting. But I do need a white tail on the wall. How are the white tail in Montana?

We do and have a great time. One big benefit is that where we go is only a few hours from home versus going all the way to SE.

I like hunting whitetails in Montana so much I bought land there and built a cabin on it. From Lynden it takes me 8 1/2 hrs to get there with gas, breakfast and de-coffee stops. Easy drive.

We have been hunting whitetail last few years we always hunted muley for years in exact same same spot.We switched when it seemed like the mule deer had gone down hill. It’s been great we’re getting some pretty good bucks but I think we are going to look for some mule deer again this year

Montana is a sleeper state for whitetail, got a 3 point that’s bigger than the Washington state governor tag killed last year..

I put them in the freezer, not on the wall and shoot one every year.

After hunting Blacktail and Mulies for many years. Last year was my first for hunting Whitetail and Montana Whitetail at that. I kind of wish I didn't.  It has become my new addiction.  I shot a nice 163" but the some of the others I saw made the one I shot look like a dink. I am looking forward to going after them this year.

I’m hitting Wyoming whitetail next year. Does it seem like the “best time” to hunt during November is pretty hard to pinpoint? Having a hard time deciding on dates.

That's pretty much the common consensus, book your hotel early as it will be busy everywhere I have been.

I worked in north central Montana, in the Bears Paw Mountains, at a big cattle ranch. Whitetails all over the place, especially in the hay stack yards (: Ranch manager had some absolute beauties mounted in his house, and I picked up some pretty sweet sheds. There were plenty of mulies out there too, but I'd be willing to bet there were more quality whitetails than mule.

:yeah: I shot my best whitetail ever in the bear paws when I lived over there! Some nice ones
