Becoming an Idaho Resident??

What is required to be an Idaho resident for hunting purposes? I'm looking at property and was wondering what is actually required to get the benefit of resident tags.

I know someone who didnt need any of that. Was there 2 days. He didnt buy any WA tags thou. The lady asked for his WILD ID she saw he didnt hunt WA and sold him his tags

Buddy of mine tried this in Montana. Worked for several years. When they caught up with him the fines were incredible. Once he paid them off though, he did become a MT resident.

You actually have to live here, you cannot just own property get mail here and live in another state.
6 months, new drivers license, local address on utility bills etc, no resident tags in another state and file your state income tax return.  They do check up on it.

If you have a Idaho ID, they will sell them to you, but they are not IDFG.  You can buy them the day you get your drivers license, doesn't mean he wont get a knock on the door in the future from a Game Warden asking for the documents proving he was here 6 months.

and if/when you get caught just remember there is a pact with all of the other western states, so if your fine/penalty includes a license suspension then it is suspended in all of the states with the pact...not worth it to save a few hundred bucks...IMO.

You gain residency after 6 months of an Idaho drivers license. How do I know? IDFG and other vendors wouldn't sell me a resident license until it was 6 months after I got my drivers license even though I was paying rent/utility bills and my mailing address was changed 2 months prior.

F&G has the resource to check up on you when they check your license and tags in the field.  If you have an ID drivers license and resident address they might want to see if you have filed an Idaho state income tax return and are you registered to vote?  You might be able to slide by an uneducated clerk at the license terminal but encountering an officer in the field might be an entirely different matter.  The penalties are steep!

The clerk looked them up in the computer & said they couldn't buy resident license, but she'd be happy to sell them non resident licenses & they could go have a good hunt. They pushed it too far so she she asked them to wait a minute & she came back with the sergeant. The sergeant was carrying a stack of papers with him, which turned out to be their entire history of license purchases- all of which was illegally buying residents licenses and tags. The sergeant walked them from the office down the street to the court and saw the judge right now.  They were both fined over $10,000 and banned from hunting and fishing for 7 years.
