School for Whitetail Noobs
« on: March 25, 2020, 09:49:34 AM »
Last year was first year hunting them (historically, blacktail, mostly).

And I did not notice in the prior spring.

All winter, been seeing them congregate in all the usual places (NE).  In the last week or so, they have disappeared.  Are they up in the hills birthing fawns about now?

Look for fawns first week of june.......right now they are moving around taking advantage of new browse in the form of buds and grasses.  Where the hills turn green, they can find shrubs/brush with new buds.

Ahh. Very good.  They seemed to just vanish overnight, but that did coincide with melt and warmer temps.  Thank you.

Mountain whitetails in NE Washington, North Idaho, and Western Montana can actually migrate quite a ways from summer to winter ranges. You’re probably just seeing them move from their normal winter grounds back towards their summer range.

Actually, around here (117 foothills), we usually see them year round. I just recently noticed their absence in the last couple days.

This was recently spotted in 117.  Coincidence?
  :dunno:
Rumor has it Wacoyotehunter chased it down.  After a long chase of 100 yards, it ran up a 90ft pine, out of breath,  and the tree fell over  :chuckle:
