I think everyone should take a deep breath. It's no secret that most WDFW office employees are working mobily from their homes. Maybe instead of ASSUMING they will charge an additional fee to trade in paper tags, maybe an email or a phone call for clarification 


With that said, my Idaho deer tag came in the mail yesterday

Well they also normally mail the WDFW vehicle access pass plus the thing you use to hang it on your rear view mirror. So what about that?

This is a fine time to bring up paperless tags. No reason that in the year 2020 we can't punch tags on a phone app.  Have paper tags for those who want them but I'd sure love to have it all mobile and save me a quart ziplock bag of space in my pack with half a dozen freaking plastic envelopes of licenses

Hmmm that makes more questions.

   So in typical WDFW web site fashion. I placed my order gave credit card info, submitted order and then got the Oh Deer message, that there was a problem and there web site was frozen. So I left and went to my e-mail and there was a message about my order with a link to print my tags. It also had the message that, I could use the link if I hadn't done it at check out. Since there thing crashed at my checkout... hmmm wonder if the link will even work? But don't want to click on it till I learn some more about this. Makes me wonder.

   So they are temp tags? And I am going to have to pay a fee to get real tags when WDFW re opens? They didn't disclose that, sounds like that's said on the tags when you use the link to go print them. Sounds like a bad way to disclose that.

    If they are temp tags and I am going to have to turn them in when WDFW reopens. Why not wait to print them, till the season started, or they reopen and mail tags. But I have a hunch that come September that link isn't going to still work. Hmmmm I shouldn't have to print them till I need them, if they are going to be open to mail real tags latter. This is just looking like more and more of a mess to me. My bet is if they are still closed when the season starts they will cancel the season.... like they have done with spring bear and fishing.

I e-mailed them a question about how I can get my tags that they charged a fee to deliver, or cancel the web order and I will go to a dealer so I can get real tags. Right now I am waiting for a reply.

It would be handy. I had rite in rain paper to but didn't think to print on it. Had a few barley pops I was just happy enough to get them printed and get the special hunts paid for without crashing it

My license says temporary but the tags do not.

Even if they do not charge. They have already made it clear they are temporary and it’s going to be a waste of our time to have to mail them the printed ones, to get them replaced. Even for free. Or give us the option to going to a dealer another waste of time and printing them. Which will probably have a fee for said dealer printing them. There is no reason these tags and licenses we print should not be valid.

To the guys that have printed them. Are they black and white? Will they print gray scale? Or are they color? Knowing WDFW I could see them do them in greens reds and blues and then when you print gray scale you can't read half of it..... that's something I am worried about with my old printer. Plus there system crashing, I have 2 tags to print. Deer and multi elk and I don't want to have to buy them again... lol buying those tags twice, it would then be cheaper to just buy a tag in another state with better odds of filling it.

It would just be a duplicate fee for re printing. Not having to pay the license cost again if you didn’t get them to print.

I have a fancy printer and scanner and it printed them in black and white.

you don't think they will just mail the originals once they get back in the office seems like what would happen since the paper ones won't actually be good for anything. WDFW does some screwy things but I think everyone is jumping the gun a bit here

I do not. Have you ever had a regular deer tag in your pocket then drew a multi tag? You have to surrender the other tag to them or a dealer to get the new tag. I do not think they will let people retain a paper tag in fear of people trying to use both.

Just got done buying deer and elk licenses at a dealer for my daughter and myself. No problem. Not even that expensive- $127 total for both of us.

And no I didn't wear a mask.

I'd suggest everyone do the same. Otherwise the WDFW will be overwhelmed when they do get back to work in a couple weeks with mailing out tags and licenses.
