Anyone ever hunt NV 121?
« on: May 20, 2020, 05:06:52 PM »
I drew the early archery mule deer tag in Nevada in unit 121 this year, wondering if anybody has any experience in the area? As per usual not looking for a pin on the map but maybe a place to start or tips based on the terrain etc. any help is much appreciated!

I’ll be moving to Salt Lake City in a few weeks so I’ll be driving over to scout as much as possible before the season.

Thanks guys!

You will have to weed thru small bucks to find a 160. Short windows of opportunity during that warm weather.  Late archery is better.

I hunted early rifle season in 2018.  Lot's of small bucks.  And the smallest bodied deer I have ever seen.  I didn't see anything worth shooting and I had planned on killing the first 150 buck I saw.  So I wasn't exactly holding out.

I appreciate the responses, my main concern is the terrain, looks like there are a few open hillsides that would be conducive to spot and stalk bow hunting but past that it looks pretty brushy.

Sounds like you guys at least saw a lot of deer? I’d love to kill a nice buck but I could be okay with a smaller velvet buck with my bow too, just hoping for a good hunt. Good to manage expectations though, I won’t hold out for a 190  :chuckle:

Doesn’t seem to be any info online even from hiking/climbing forums, I’m assuming you guys didn’t run into too many other people down there? Doesn’t seem like an overly popular recreation area.

Thanks again for the responses

The only place I saw people was back behind the prison.  In the rest of the unit I literally never saw another person.  There is a lot of open country and a lot of thicker country.  The unit is pretty flat in place and pretty steep in other places.  You can hunt what ever kind of country you want.  I saw lots of deer.  The deer were thick behind the prison and spread out in the rest of the unit.

Awesome, the bristlecone wilderness is behind the prison there and definitely on my list to check out. I really appreciate the help, excited to get down there and have a look around
