Giving away fish you’ve caught question
« on: June 16, 2020, 09:06:22 PM »
My dad and I recently had a successful fishing trip. I wanted to share our catch with some friends and family. My dad was under the impression that I would have to write my name, address and phone number to legally do that. I tried to look this up via the WDFW and google but couldn’t really find an answer. Does any of our resident fishing gurus know the answer to this or better yet provide a link?

If you’ve processed the fish then give it away and don’t worry. If you have made it home with your catch and you are giving away a fish then I think you are fine as no one would ever know. Outside of that I’m not sure but as far as I’m concerned I caught the fish with a legal license and I’ll give it to whoever I want.

Take a look at this WAC...I dont find anything about giving it away :dunno:just selling purchasing or bartering.
WAC 220-200-110
Buying or selling game unlawful—Game-farmed meat exception.
(1) It is unlawful to offer for sale, sell, purchase, or barter edible parts of wild animals or game birds. It is unlawful to offer for sale, sell, purchase, or barter edible parts of game fish, except pursuant to RCW 77.65.480.

He isn’t selling, purchasing or bartering.  Sharing fish you legally caught is a wonderful and legal tradition.

I have done the documentation process when field dressing fish and goving away the eggs. Once home and processed I've never documented the give away.

I doubt WDFW want to mess with a person giving away a couple fish or couple pounds of burger.  If I were giving away a whole animal, I would make sure to document it.  Most the time I give away a couple pounds of burger or steaks....the evidence is gone that night!!  LOLOLOL   :cue: :cue:

Also....If someone is transporting your catch or kill, you should definitely fill out the paperwork imo.

Hello my name is Ridgeratt and I am a fish felon.  😎😎
I have several elderly friends who can not get out and fish, but they do enjoy a fresh fish dinner. I will do my best to make sure that they have some.
