Mossberg 817 - 17HMR

Im looking to put a scope on a little 17 I picked up
bought a Simmons 22mag rimfire scope
went to mount and the dovetail bases are way to big that are already installed
tried a couple sets of 1 inch rings I had already and no joy
My question is what bases and rings should I get for a 1-inch scope ?
or should I get a rail ?

IMO, recoil is light with a 17 hmr so you will do just fine with cheap base and rings.  I've got Weaver quadlock rings on my savage 17.  They sell them at walmart, and they can usually be found on amazon or ebay also.

I'm not sure about bases for that model.
