High Elevation Buck Hunt - Mt. Baker Question
« on: August 16, 2020, 09:00:38 PM »
Hello!

I'm planning to hit Mt. Baker next month for the early season High Elevation Buck Hunt & wanted to ensure I was in the legal boundary of Mt. Baker. The regulations just call out "Mount Baker", but it doesn't stipulate whether that is the Mt. Baker Wilderness Area or Mt. Baker National Forest.

Does anyone know which area is legal?

Thank you in advance,

I had that problem too but then i found this planning tool, just put the info in for the hunt you're doing(start/end date, gmu and the 3pt min) should show you a light blue outline of the area.

After "Henry Jackson" it says "wilderness areas", meaning everything before and including Henry Jackson is a wilderness area and is part of the High buck hunt

Thanks for the help guys. Yeah I pulled up the hunt planner but it only lists general or permit deer seasons. I scouted last year (unsuccessful hunt) within the wilderness area, so I'll likely camp out in the same region.

Thank you again,

I've hit this area before. Get your topo map out to cross reference with where you want to go.

Hijacking this thread for a similar question. “Olympic Peninsula”. Is that unit 621 (Olympic), Olympic National Forest, or the entire Olympic Peninsula (determined by what boundary)?

High buck hunts are  only open in the wilderness areas
not all wilderness areas

The first link that pops up if you google OP Wilderness: https://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/olympic/specialplaces/?cid=fsbdev3_049514
You can't hunt in National Parks so ignore anything in park boundaries. Those are all in the National Forest.

Yes, all designated Wilderness areas on the Olympic Peninsula are open for the high buck hunt. As well as the other Wilderness areas listed in the regs.

I am pretty confident to say that all federally designated Wilderness areas in Washington State are on Forest Service Land, Typically located inside of National Forests and by definition have no roads in them.
