Fish ID
« on: August 24, 2020, 07:54:48 AM »
So, weekend number 2 on the salt put a couple new things in the boat. Some type of flounder and a big sculpin, among other things. Can anyone tell me the exact species of these?

The sculpin is a Great Sculpin, Myoxocephalus polyacanthocephalus and is good eating.

The flounders are harder for me to tell. I mostly catch Rock Sole which have a distinctive high arch in their lateral line just behind the head.

Yeah they are, it's hard to tell from the pics but I'm guessing you noticed.

Thanks Loki. I was thinking possibly English Sole? I'm not sure that it really matters, as it's a flat fish that tastes good and isn't a halibut.
Is that all I really need to know?

It looks like the two fish on top eyes are opposite and different species.

Both right eyed. Just a wonky picture.
