Two way capabilities of Garmin 520 HCx
« on: April 14, 2009, 10:01:54 PM »
I'm pretty sure I'm going to purchase a Garmin 520 HCx in the next month or so and way wondering if the radio can communicate with the other cheaper two way radios on the market. A few people in my hunting party already have some and I'd like to be able to talk with them if Ibuy one.

Yes, the Rhino 520 can communicate with the smaller Motorola radios as they are still on the same channels.

But not all other radios are compatible...Let me make a suggestion though. For the few dollars more, consider the 530HCx and have the weather radio capabilities. I find it valuable to have that feature..
Some people spend their entire life wondering if they made a difference. Marines don't have that problem.

Where do u plan on buying it?  GI Joes has them on sale for 379 plus Uncle Sam.  I bought mine on the net for 350 tax free and free shipping.

I was going to try Joe's Sports. I'm pretty sure they are all going out of business and that's why they are so cheap.

I bought the 530 HCx with the topo program and a 2MB memory card for under $400 through www.pcnation.com. No tax and no shipping.  Definitely spend the extra couple bucks to get the 530 HCx.  As mentioned by others, you get the weather channel and the compass.  One of the best things I have purchased.
