OnX Maps Customer Service
« on: August 25, 2020, 01:29:49 PM »
I had purchased the chip along with the desktop application for WA only, about 5 or 6 years ago. I mostly hunt public land, so I haven't needed to update but decided to this year. The plans have changed to a subscription choice of two plans. I just wanted to update the maps. I called into their Montana office and spoke to a very helpful lady. She told me to sign up for the $29.95/year subscription, update my chip, and then cancel my subscription. In addition, she sent me PDFs by email to give me those directions. I followed the instructions but the chip wouldn't update. I wrote back to her and told he so. Today, their shipping me out a brand new WA chip that I'll receive within 3-5 days (I bet sooner).

I haven't been a profitable customer for these guys for quite a few years but they treated me like the most important one they had. I thought y'all should know.

  Glad to hear they are supportive to prior/existing customers.  I finally broke down this year and got the chip for my rino and the online plan as well.   Good to know there is a way to update the chip in the future without having to buy another one.

My dad bought the chip back before they rebranded. Followed the instructions and luckily the chip updated. I still subscribed for their annual WA app for my phone. I use my phone now exclusively (rugged smartphone).  They have always treated us well.

Did you get the complete information transferable to desktop/Basecamp, as well? It's like $15 more and well worth it. You can call them to have it added if you didn't get that when you purchased the chip.

They are great when you can get them on the phone.  Probably my fault.  Seems like every time I have needed them it's on a weekend, or after 4pm.  Mountain Time Zone...

Same here, got right back to me when I was having trouble with waypoints after an update and fixed it right away. Will be interesting to see them fight it out with goHunt now that both will be doing 3-d mapping.

Had corrupt WA State Chip ... called OnX Customer Service and said they'd send WA replacement chip right out.
Received chip package before trip to Klickitat last spring and didn't take time to verify until out in field ...
turned out they mistakenly sent Montana chip.

Called customer service while on the road (from Lyle) and they apologized and sent another WA chip.
Was there waiting when got home ... told them I'd return Montana chip and they said "Keep It for Your Next Hunt Trip to Montana".
Pretty Cool ... I'd call that First Class Customer Service

I've used their products for about 7 years now.  I'm happy with them other than when my phone doesn't have service. I'm not smart enough to download a map portion that I can use.

It's clunky but not too bad.  That's one thing I'm hoping GoHunt improves upon.  I liked OnX's old way where you could select a bunch of areas and download it all instead of now you have to download, wait, download, wait, etc until you get all the area you want.

Having it on both the phone and the Rino means you don't have to worry when out of service and you can communicate with your fellow Rino partners.

I received an emai today about their new offline streaming maps. Glanced at it so not sure if it’s a good thing or not. I’m also VERY new to Onx on my phone so maybe it’s nothing new for most.

Since neither of my partners had a Rino, my $500 garmin 655T stayed in the trailer for 10 days. I downloaded maps at home to my phone of the area and around it. I bought a $10 Iphone battery charger to keep in my pack. The charger for the battery is USB and I can use that cord to charge my InReach from the battery if I need to. The Iphone and battery are a lot lighter than the Rino and it's far easier to use. The one drawback is not having a radio and not being able to share data wirelessly.
