I figured someone put one on the ground and would start the 2020 deer thread. Kinda surprised.

Sat in a cut for 14 hours with nothing to show. Got in for the morning, didn’t want to hike out and back in for the evening so I sat in the timber edge (shade) then back to my vantage point as the sun started falling. Saw some good bucks on Saturday in it so had high hopes...

Bumped a few but didn't get a good shot, hopefully tomorrow will be better.
Also it turns out "my spot" is super busy. Talked with three other hunters YIKES

Trying to fill my 127 second deer first, I was in the stand and had a few does come by at 30 but had youngins with em. No shot was taken. There was a ton of buck sign in the area, but last time I checked my cam apparently i forgot to turn it back on  :bash:
God made man, Samuel Colt made them equal.

My oldest and I went out last night after work. Had a doe come in and my son missed. ( His first year bow hunting.)

That's a great experience though. I remember my first misses well and they definitely taught me a lot about the what to do in the final moments. I still have a hard time controlling my heart rate/breathing sometimes.

It seems to be a common issue, when I'm stand hunting and can see a buck from a ways away I have time to get the adrenaline flowing and the heart rate spikes.  I've had to calm down with breathing techniques and typically can get a controlled shot after a few breaths.

Working for the next few days then heading out this weekend, Monday looks best for temperatures and north wind forecasted.  Poke a biggun gents!

I got winded by the biggest buck I’ve Ever personally seen, :bash:6-8 points and wider than his ears. Saw him coming up the hill right at me but didn’t know he was walking in a depression, so I couldn’t see him as he approached. I thought he was still toward the bottom of the hill about 50+ yards away when all of a sudden I hear a crash 10 yards away as he catches my wind and takes off..... very disheartening, this is my 2nd year bow hunting and 3rd year hunting over all. Now that’s it’s been a few hours I’m trying to just trying to recap the events and see what I could have done differently and learn from that instead of being upset about it.It does make me feel good to know I’ve got a monster moving around my property, doubt I’ll see him again but hopefully I meet up with some of his dumber family memebers tonight.

Just remember that sometimes the lesson is that the deer won today. You do everything right, or at least don't do anything wrong, and still come away defeated. Good luck finding him again.
