Hot temps and RUT
« on: September 04, 2020, 05:17:52 PM »
 :bash:

Praying for some cooler temps to come. Looks like the first week of the season is going to be a hot one. Is this going to keep them from talking or the rut kicking off with cooler temps the norm? Just curious what your thoughts are. I plan on making it an early morning hunt and then hanging out in the woods for a while until the evening since I will be biking in behind some gates. I’m sure I’ll have to be next to some water sources and in some deep nasty holes......
Never give up.... you never know what’s around the next corner or over the next ridge......enjoy it while you can!

The moon phase is going to be rough early on. Be in there before first light and don't come out until you can't make out your pins.  Shade up and chillax mid-day where you can keep an eye on some wallows while playing the wind. Good luck!

It might keep them a little quite but the rut is actually set off by the amount of sunlight that is hitting the back of the elks eyes causing changes in testosterone levels
Solid advise from bushcraft

Some of my largest Bulls have been shot during a full moon phase, mid day, in the timber during 90 degree weather. Bulls will guard their herd aggressively if you know where they're at.

Have some wallows picked out and have there movements and heavily traveled trails down. I was just curious with the warmer temps. But really appreciate the advice!!

Good luck guys and gals, may the wind go the right way and arrows fly true to their marks, and bulls hit the dirt!!

You need to get out scouting. Elk are already bugling, and also bugling at 0230 hours. Go Hunt.
There are only so many sunrises left.

They're already bugling in Cougar.

Been scouting!! Know where they are, just haven’t been able to make it out because of my work schedule. I will be out there the next 3 days, deer hunting to scout for elk again. Already have their wallows and trails down! I was more curious if the weather would hamper the rut or vocalization or not

And honestly I can’t remember hunting with temps in the 80s when I was elk hunting. I have had success where I’m going this year in years past and have killed some decent animals there. I just don’t remember the temps like this before, maybe they have been but I’m not sure.

They've been this high and not that long ago. Same discussions arose.
