Drive up high and stay high if you want to see open terrain. Otherwise you are brush hunting. Forest is dense up there. Find a game trail, well traveled water source, etc....and sit on it. Oh, and study a topo map for wherever you are going if you decide you are going to leave the ridge tops. Some of those trails go a long way up or down in a real short distance. I amateur houred my way in there with the only criteria being a trail that had no recent trip reports and went as far into an area, with no other access, as possible. Turned out that trail dropped over 3,000ft in a little over 1 mile, and there was not a recent trip report for good reason. The struggles of being a newb.
