First time high buck hunt for my son and I

Greetings everyone,

My son (13) and  I are going hunting again this season and hope to be successful since next year we are most likely being relocated due to military movement. This will be our second season. Last year we only saw one doe! Looking to see if anyone has any good areas they would recommend for modern firearms. We are located in Marysville and was thinking about heading north to mount baker.  Any information anyone would be kindly to share with us will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I would look at an Wilderness area in your location that is opened and do some exploring

Successful high hunts are few and far between. Best plan is to look forward to making some amazing memories with your son in some of the prettiest country you'll find, and if you happen to get lucky and find a buck to kill, count that as a bonus.

The recommends you might get are going to need more info.  Not all 13 year olds are the same.  How far can you go in?  How strong/fit are you as a pair?  Can your partner carry all of their own gear or are you going to need to do yours and some? Drive up high and stay high if you want to see open terrain. Otherwise you are brush hunting. Forest is dense up there. Find a game trail, well traveled water source, etc....and sit on it. Oh, and study a topo map for wherever you are going if you decide you are going to leave the ridge tops. Some of those trails go a long way up or down in a real short distance. I amateur houred my way in there with the only criteria being a trail that had no recent trip reports and went as far into an area, with no other access, as possible. Turned out that trail dropped over 3,000ft in a little over 1 mile, and there was not a recent trip report for good reason. The struggles of being a newb.
