Be Careful In The Backcountry

Always a good reminder to be extra careful out there.
I had someone's old tent stake that was well used and beaten to almost a point dang near take my middle toe off today on my right foot. Let me tell you that was a painful hike out 6 miles and now I'm sitting in the emergency room getting my foot fixed. Luckily I carry a some first aid supplies with me.

Looking forward to getting back up there next year.

Yikes!  Barefoot out there or go right thru your boot?   Usually its the darn sticks that catch under your sole and want to catapult you onto the rocks.

Well, I went back to where we had our camp setup  to take an short break since nothing was moving and threw on my camp Crocks to let the feet air out a bit.

And not worried about tetanus for at least a week or more, I mean the symptoms do not show a almost 8 days.

No need for tetanus shots if you cut it off quick enough, just like a zombie bite - cut off the extremity before the tainted blood gets past the cutoff point and you're fine.

I'll have to man up before rifle Elk season starts in November.

Unfortunately I got the ole Tetanus shot last night since I left the toe attached.

This would not have happened if you were running your crampons. Good thing you were running your ice axe as a cane on the hike out. I'm sure it helped.
