Elk Hunting Question!
« on: November 12, 2020, 12:15:25 PM »
Hey guys. I know you probably hate to hear this, but I need help. My dad is a teacher and has been really stressed about being online for school and with everything that's happening with covid. I'm wanting to plan a weekend trip with him to go elk hunting. I have gotten a deer every year since I was 9 so I feel confident that I can move on up to elk. Both of us are fit and can hike in as far as needed. We're definitely more of a meat over antler group and would prefer to take a cow. We would be hunting archery, west side of Washington, and preferably for cow. Not looking for personal hotspots, just a push in the right direction. We would also be up to tagging along with someone to learn the works of things, or if anyone was looking for a hunting partner. Any information helps. Thanks in advance and I'm sorry to disturb you! (Would be able to switch to rifle or muzzleloader if that's what you prefer!)

That unit in Watcom county that is open for Late archery/muzzy elk holds very few elk. I would look at the hunting regs to see what is open, and pick a location on the peninsula or SW WA that is open and has state land on it. State land makes for easy access, Forest Service land is good too, but no clear cuts on FS land and likely less elk. Just pick a spot and go do a trip. Even if you don't find any elk, just getting away into the woods for a weekend will be good.
