Big bend 248
« on: September 27, 2020, 08:58:36 PM »
Hi all. For the last 20 years my dad and I have hunted in 260 foster creek and had good success. Unfortunately most of our regular places burned in the recent fires. So we are
Looking for a new place for modern deer. Have hunted the Methow area and swakane before, but looking to explore a new areas. Looking at 248 Big Bend amd the wilderness area. Curious on your thoughts and and general areas to explore? Planning on heading over next weekend to drive the area and get a lay of the land not asking for your honey holes but maybe a place to start

big bend can be good until the deer either get pushed onto privet lands or move out completely. i know the fire moved in close to that unit too. sounds like withrow and saint andrews units might be a ghost land for deer due to everything burnt.

The Deer will stay on the private wheat fields.  What little state land will be crawling with people.  Deer will be back in the burns though.  The green wheat did not burn.  :twocents:

I've hunted there during the muzzle loading season. We always see quite a few hunters but if we're close we chat 'em up and stay out of each others ways. In my experience, all the small bucks are up high and the big boys are down by the river. Pack outs normally suck if you're alone when you're looking at a 7-9 mile uphill trek from the river after you down a buck at 3pm.   :tung:

Thanks for the info. Looking at this as a way to see a new area, stretch my legs and spend time with my dad and nephew. Dad is 80 so not much hiking around for him. If I run into a buck it will be a bonus.
