New bullets
« on: October 01, 2020, 01:44:14 PM »
What would you reccomend for new ML bullets? Right now im shooting Nosler partition 300 grain HP which I love but I am finally running low and cannot find them anymore. Would like to stick with something to use same bullet for deer and elk. What do you reccomend? Ive looked at the bloodlines and Barnes TMZ on knight site. Im shooting a knight bighorn 50 cal.

Thanks

I have had 3 bighorns. and the TMZ is difficult to load unless you use Knights "blue" sabots.  The TEZ has the blue sabots already.
TMZ are boat tail, TEZ are flat base.  Don't think that really matters at muzzy distances.

Both of these are in 290 gr (what I use)

They have an AWESOME mushroom

Me and my family have killed tons of critters with the TMZ and TEZ bullets. I use the tez they load so much nicer. I am getting a new remington 700. It uses the barnes flat base bullet with a green sabot made for remington 700's to help with the large powder loads

In my Bighorn the TEZs were anything but easy to load. No easier than the MZ expanders. I stuck with the expanders in 300 grain and an MMP HPH24 sabot. Still a bear but doable. I think that the Blue Knight sabots are the same thing.

45 caliber Speer Deep Curl.
Should shoot similar to the noslers and will hold together well. They are fairly reasonable in price too.

I am really late getting here on this one.... but, I would suggest that you take a hard look at the Lehigh Defense .452x265.

Do not let the weight fool you either. These bullets have a very high 'Terminal Ballistic' rating. Plus they operate in a different manor than we are use to.  The operation theory comes from Germany...

Keep shooting muzzleloaders - They are a blast!!

We have put down 3 bulls the last two years with 290gr Barnes TEZ. They have worked flawless. Perfect 100% weight retention and some pretty devastating wound channels. So much better Then the lead Powerbelts I grew up with.

Once you recover your first Barnes bullet and see what the performance looks like, I can’t imagine why you would shoot anything else.

250 gr Barnes TMZ. Devastating performance on multiple deer heck even an elk and coyote.  Everything drops quickly. So much better then lead Powerbelts in my opinion and yes I had a lot of experience running both. Will never go back to powerbelts. This is the only bullet recovered from Barnes. The rest have been pass thru. This was a frontal shot on a deer. Through front shoulder, over 10 ribs broken, lung shot, and lodged just under skin in backstrap just in front of rear hip. For a 250 grain bullet performance has been amazing. Had almost the same shot on an elk in the past too and had a full pass through. Great bullet with quick humane kills.

Killed another bull recently with Barnes 290 TEZ. Serious wound channel and perfect peddling. Can’t see any reason to change. They do load difficultly in my bighorn When the barrel is clean and dry but after the shot they load with no problems.
