I'm offended by the fact that the OP used a black square to cover his face.

I am not offended by anybody talking score or about anything else. I read your post and thought it was an fyi. Its all good I just don't personally really care about score but have had people with more knowledge than me score 2 bucks that were our biggest. I shouldn't have even commented about the score just seemed like some were getting carried away with was it actually exactly 190 or not. Its just a great buck and I am glad he posted it.
  big is big

And to be clear, my comment was a general statement because it happens over and over anytime score is even mentioned.
It is foolish and wrong to mourn these men.  Rather, we should thank god that such men lived.  -General George S. Patton

Nobody is saying it isn't a huge buck.  He pointed out a boone and Crockett score and posted the measurements that boone and Crockett uses to determine a score. If you're gonna use boone and Crockett formula then it needs to be used correctly. My comment was a simple fyi.

Not everyone is offended by talking score. Ive pm'd with rhiley about this deer and he's far from being squeamish about talking numbers. For the life of me ill never understand why people need to project their own beliefs into others threads. If you don't like the scoring system then that's fine but why is it that every single time there's a "whats it score" thread, all the anti score folks have to come out of the wood work to let everyone know they don't care about score  :dunno:

First you aren't the only person who questioned the score, I wasn't singling you out, second I'm not anti score at all, but it bothers me when people who don't have the rack in their hands call out someone about the score of an animal, (this was meant as a generalized comment, not directled at you alone), especially when photos can make any animal look smaller or larger depending how they were taken. I'm glad to hear the OP doesn't mind talking numbers, and that you were only questioning his formula, but I still hope other members don't get the feeling they might be called out by numerous other members if they post their photos! This has been a concern for some time and one reason some members actually don't post their photos.

You hit the nail on the head Dale. The less people get up on their soapbox and feel like they need to call everybody out on anything they may or may not agree with, the more pictures we will see. I enjoy seeing people successes and could really care less what the actual score is and whether I agree with what they say it is or not. I humor people all the time that I may or may not agree with because I don’t like unnecessary confrontations, but some like drama I guess. Let just leave that out of the forum and in daytime soap operas where it belongs

Antler scores are like the Body Mass Index:

you don't need it to tell a fat one when you see it.

LOL that's because it was not me holding him in that picture and I respect folks wishes to remain anonymous!

I appreciate everyones comments, question(s/ing), etc. and take no offense to anything. I too would be skeptical in this era of wide-angled instagram buck pics, and I'd love to put the buck in all of your guys hands to see for yourselves if I could! Bearpaw is absolutely right though, these days where it's easy to track people down and harass them definitely came into effect and dissuaded me from posting at first.

If it was totaled wrong I'd love to hear what more seasoned guys (like Karl) have to say about it. We had a great conversation a couple days ago and he knows how catastrophically awful this hunt was until this deer finally hit the ground. It doesn't bother me at all if people question it and it needs to be scored and scored again. As a passionate (addicted) young hunter, I'd love to know if I was off base so I can ultimately get better at field judging and learn more about deer.

Fortunately dead ones are a lot easier to score than live ones!

It's still a oil buck from my perspective.  Glad the op is light hearted about score conversations. It has turned people away in the past and people aren't posting this year because of it.

Scoring live is a little tricky.

It not only takes skill to get close enough, but to hold on with one hand  while trying to pull measurements with the other is  way tough.  I've been kicked off a number of times.

That is one massive buck.  I agree that the score should not be as important as just taking a mule deer that big.  Way to go !!!
