Solid deer for that unit these days. Well done.

Seeing much for deer otherwise? I have the chewuch tag and wondering how this year compares to others in terms of deer movement

The deer were low, we saw a few small bucks up higher but no shooters. Hopefully this weather gets them moving for you

Congrats on a very nice buck. My friend was up there today and saw some real toads!!

Thank you everybody. I took horses over to check the areas behind the gated roads, practiced shooting longer shots if needed, told my work I wasn’t coming home till I got a deer, and I ended up shooting this guy 50’ from the truck the second day I was there at noon! He about jumped in the truck with us as we drove by heading up to check for tracks in the fresh snow. Things often don’t work out how you think they will, I actually hesitated shooting because I didn’t want the hunt to be over. I’m thankful for this hunt and for this great deer, I’m thankful my wife and youngest baby girl got to come along on this hunt along with a good friend and his wife. This trip got cut short after hearing that evening that our oldest had an appendicitis and was going into surgery, we left for home the next morning. Nope things don’t often work out how you think but often they work out for the best. I’ll probably be an old man before I draw a quality deer tag again if I ever do, but I’ll be there for my kids, my family and friends when they draw and those will be the times that things will work out better than anything I can plan for.

Thanks for sharing. Great job. I like how you prepared for long shots, hunted behind the gates, let your employer know you’d be gone...then harvested a dandy buck 50’ from the road of the 2nd day. A reminder to be prepared as much as you can for any situation. Well done. Hope your boy has a speedy recovery.
