Seen a camp with a spike and a decent 20" 4 point hanging... They got them on friday I believe... Had a group of 5 hunters and a father/son had tagged out on the two deer. They said everything they've seen has been up high, however I've seen most of my deer in between the really high stuff of Mud and Potato and the lower stuff of Crum/Steliko/Oklahoma Gulch... VERY little tracks up Oklahoma...

Yep... that's what I said... Slider can back that one up too! It's okay by me though! Too many young bucks as it is! Pretty funny though for all their hunting and that 4 point was the biggest they'd seen, went up that evening and a couple miles from their camp I spotted a buck that was a LOT bigger... hehe Getting excited for Wednesday!

Maybe the kid took the spike. Could be his first deer.
Always kinda neat for father and son to both come home with deer. Dunno....just guessin'.

I'm not knocking that a kid killed a spike for his first buck, I'm just saying on a tag like that to shoot a spike on teh first day, whether its your first buck or not, isn't the best use of that tag. Just my 2 cents.

I doubt anybody will dissagree with you there! However it's perfectly fine with me if he doesn't shoot a monster! We need all the breeding bucks we can get...

Come on now, lighten up!!! I'm sure you were all trophy killers when you were 10 years old too.

I wasn't a trophy hunter that young but a guy could at least hunt a few days, see lots of deer and then take one he likes, not take the first buck he saw, especially on that tag, maybe there should be a youth hunt for 2 point or less bucks.

I am TOTALLY 100% for people to shoot small bucks/bulls or even does on LE tags. It appears to make it harder for serious trophy hunters to draw a tag but I think it actually helps. If only large mature bucks were being killed the number of tags would need to be reduced to maintain a quality herd. I would prefer the state institute a "mentor" type program for youth to go out and shoot all the messed up two points or inferior bucks. It could and would easily be implemented but that would actually require the WDFW to manage the game instead of monitor it. Oops off topic, but I hope more LE tag holders shoot dinks. Two more days!!!!!!!!! Heck, my brother ate his tag four years ago because he did not see a "shooter". The last couple days we were going for him (I killed a 174" already) to get a shooter, a white tail (saw him numerous times in the same area but never saw him the last two days), or a mature 3 pnt. Needless to say none of the deer he wanted to kill were seen so we let 4/20"ish 4 points a day grow up.

I dont see any problem with shooting a small buck like this..My girlfriend puts in with me for one of these tags and would be totally happy killing a small buck. She doesnt like the crowds but loves the country we hunt..So in his eyes it met the standards...Good on him....Just my 2 cents....
