Vacuum sealer bags

What brands do y'all recommend?
I've tried the Foodsaver ones, not impressed, seemed flimsy and didn't seal well.  I have been using the Ziploc brand (thicker and held up well)...but no longer available

PS, prefer the rolls and not pre-cut bags

For long and narrow (think fish) I prefer the 6" rolls of what ever I can find, but after that I use Weston pre-cut in qt's and gallon size. Well worth the money and I get 100 bags to the pkg. For the same price or less as the spendy food saver junk in the so called value packs and I think I get more. I think the gallon size is only 25 per pkg.  Both cost under $30.00 a pack.

I bought the Cabela's rebranded ones this year for my WY trip.  We packed up 8 animals worth of meat into those things with only one bag having an issue.  I think that issue may have been my fault in loading them into the cooler on the way home.

I'll be buying those again for sure.

I dont know which ones he is talking about specifically, but the last roll I decided to try out a 2pk of 6" wide rolls that came up on there. Have used over half a roll so far and am just as happy with them as with the Cabela's ones.

I have been using https://vacupack.com/ for my chamber sealer bags. It appears he has some for the traditional food saver type bags too.

How about mil size?  The Ziploc ones were a lot thicker than the foodsaver ones, guessing 5mil compared to FS 3mil.

Gonna start with trying out the Amazon ones.

Save some pennies up and step up to a small chamber sealer machine. I pay roughly $.035 per bag and get a much more quality sealed product vs external sealer bags.

I use several different sites but vacuumsealersunlimited has some real deals at times with free shipping.  I buy mine in lots of 500 or 1000 depending on bag size.  And yes, based on bag savings alone, my chamber sealer has paid for itself twice now.

Have to agree with 726b on this one.  I've been wanting a chamber sealer for a few years now, finally pulled the trigger last month.  My butcher shop is pretty much complete now, grinders, band saw, mixers, stuffers, sealers, the works.  Anyway, Costco had the LEM chamber sealer on sale last month, might still be some on the shelf.  $599, normal price is $899 to $999.  Buying the bags by the 1000 and cost is where it is at.  4mm and 5mm bags, ranging from .025 to .075 per bag.  I've found a permanent place for the machine (they weight 85 pounds) and it is great for left overs also.  Smoked a pork butt and turkey this weekend and packaged in one or two pound packs for the freezer.  Toss them in a pot of boiling water and dinner is ready, no mess.  Can't wait to start harvesting broccoli and cauliflower this year, blanche, ice bath, spin dry (salad spinner works great for this) then into the chamber sealer.  Ready for the freezer and to the pot.  Even going to go as far as mixing up dry goods for camps and smashing them in the chamber sealer, quick to mix and cook/bake and great for space savings. 

OK, that was a lot of fluff, but you will love a chamber sealer, they are awesome.  Oh yes, and I've sealed soups and stews in it also, you won't get that option with the vacuum sealers.

I've sealed a lot of soup in a vacuum sealer, just gotta freeze a bit first.

That said , chamber vac is easy and economical after initial purchase price, but I still keep the seal a meal around.

mk8, be careful with the blanch times on veggies, especially cauliflower.  The chamber sealer can smash them into a single mass of cauliflower mush.  I partially freeze veggies on cookie sheets before sealing, that helps as well.

Roger NRA, I will do that.  Used to do that the old way also.  As for "smashing" stuff, yes it will do that.  I've been having fun, sometimes with buddies over it's beer games and lets see/bet on how much it will smash this?...   Hot dog buns are pretty awesome!!!
