Pulling jet sled with decoys or blinds behind boat
« on: December 07, 2020, 04:29:46 PM »
Has anyone pulled a shappel jet sled (for decoys, blinds, etc.) behind a boat? I figured here in the waterfowl section would be the best place to get an answer on that.

I crossed a channel a few times towing mine from a belly boat. Worked a few times, didn't the last time...

Personally- I wouldn't tow one behind a boat. At least not at any speed faster than a drift.

Very slow in calm water it works fine.  It obviously doesn't have a bunch of freeboard when empty much less loaded with stuff.  Behind a canoe or kayak it would work, but I wouldn't get up on plane with it.  It will also have noticeable drag which could be bad if you are paddling upwind or up current.

I've used that thing so many times for all kinds of duck and big game hunting it's pretty crazy.

I like the idea of pulling a kayak northwesthunter84. In addition to freeing up space in the boat, if something with the boat goes south, the kayak might make a big difference.

These posts are confirming what I suspected about pulling the jet sled behind a boat.

I just used my jet sled yesterday for the first time to haul decoys. I hunt with my kayak, so obviously space is a big deal. There was no wind so it was very easy. I could see a lot of wind being an issue and taking waves over the front of the sled. Still a great tool! Between the kayak and the sled, I hauled out 42 decoys....mostly big cork ones! There is very minimal drag too.

I don’t think I would pull one with a boat unless you had the big one.  They are more setup for being pulled across grass, snow or being floated.  If it hits the wake wrong it would flip probably.  Just toss it in your boat. I throw mine in my boat and throw my decoy bags in it while out setting decoys.  Works great.
Cut em!
It's not the shells!  It's the shooter!
