elk muzzle loader with 6 points
« on: April 16, 2009, 05:15:44 PM »
anyone know what the real chances of drawing either hunt choice 2212 (teanaway d gmu 335) or 2213 (peaches ridge c gmu 336/346) with 6 points?

am i just spinning my wheels for the next 10 years or is there a REAL possibility?  if not i think i will change to applying for archery permits.

thanks in advance for the help.

It's about one in a million odds about as close as I can figure. Sorry. Yeah I'd give up and go for something that you might have a chance to draw in the next 20 years.

I have customers that have drawn Peaches with 6 points in years past with there muzzleloaders. It's definatly doable.

I have a friend that guides in Peaches Ridge, and he says that you should be able to draw with 6 points for muzzy. If you want more info, pm me. He told me what caliber of bull he could put me on too.

I have 12 points and every year has been trying to draw a peaches or bumping muzzy bull tag. I keep thinking that some day my luck will change.

I drew muzzle Peaches last year with two points. Drew the rifle Peaches three years ago with seven or eight.

If I were you I would not put in for the Teanaway tag since it's not during the rut.  Muzzle Loader Bull tags are the hardest Bull tags to draw in the Yakima area.  Other than the Rifle Little Naches bull hunt and of course this years rut hunts with the rifle.  If you have 6 points I would definately not waste those on an archery tag.  Your chances of scoring on an absolute pig are alot higher with a muzzle loader than a bow, because unlike the bow during the ML season the rut is in full swing.  If I was you I'd put in for
1. Colockum
2. Peaches Ridge
3. Goose Prairie
4. Cowiche

Here is a link that shows the average amount of points it takes to draw each hunt.  Good luck this year and you've gotten this many points you might as well hold out for a good permit.  Once your points drop down to zero then start putting in for archery permits.

That statement is a little misleading. The points shown there are the average "winner" points. But being that the draw is totally random, the average points shown there really doesn't mean anything. For example, the Colockum muzzleloader bull permit shows the average winner points was 3. But with only 1 permit and 284 people applying for it, you can see the actual odds are so bad that to draw it with 3 points would still be extremely lucky. All I'm saying is don't think of that column of average points to mean "that is what it takes to draw a particular permit."

I totally agree bobcat but it does give you "somewhat" of an idea of what it takes to draw.  Obviously the Colockum hunt with only 1 permit given out doesn't give you an accurate representation.  But areas such as Observatory and Peaches that give out 20 plus can give you a basic idea of what it takes to draw.  Just trying to give him a ballpark figure.  Not anything exact.  I guess i should have stated that earlier.

It was fine what you posted, I just wanted to head off any whining after the draw. There are always several people on here bitching about how they didn't draw and they had so many points, and why didn't they draw when so and so drew the same permit twice in the last 5 years, blah blah blah...

Know what I mean? I get tired of the whining. The draw is like a lottery people and points are no guarantee that you will EVER draw anything. Especially those who inisist on only applying for the most popular and hardest to draw permits in the state.   :bash:    :bash:   ;)
