CVA QRBP Question
« on: December 25, 2020, 05:19:14 PM »
So my very sweet wife surprised me today with a new muzzleloader for Christmas.  Such a great gift and from out of the blue.  However she bought the CVA Wolf scope combo and not a NW compliant model.  Can I just order the NW Compliant QRBP and swap out the 209 QRBP and be good to go or do I also need to change the firing pin?

Also the scope has to be removed, any recommendations on a good set of replacement sights?  Thanks for any advice and help!

In my 5 seconds of muzzy experience. All you need is to buy the breech plug to make it NW compliant.

Get the 209 with blackhorn one though.

As far as firing pin I'm not 100% sure but that's easy to swap out too.

The williams globe sights are ones you should check out.

Last year I was hitting a pie plate at 140yds with ease.
These CVA's are awesome.

She bought the correct gun. You don’t need a NW compliant gun in WA state. Closed breach is now legal as of 2018.

Further more scopes are proposed to be legal starting next year. 1x is on the proposal as well as magnification scopes. I would wait til April to order any sights.

Being in Idaho, I’m assuming you want an Idaho compliant gun. If the Wolf is the same as the Accura, then yes you will need to convert the firing pin. CVA and Muzzle-loaders.com both used to sell them. The kit consists for a new pin, bushing, spring and o-ring. Super easy to swap back and forth.

I believe your barrel is set up for open sights, If it is pm me your info and I'll mail you a set. I replaced mine with a peep and Lyman front globe.

You'll need a new breech plug AND firing pin assembly. 209 primers and musket caps each need a different firing pin. Switching them out is pretty straightforward though and it's a simple matter to buy a NW compliant breech plug and firing pin set like those at the links below. I've done this with my CVA Wolf and Optima.

I also highly recommend putting some sort of peep sight on your muzzleloader. This sight from Williams is really easy to install, plus it works well with the standard front sight.

If it is already set up for 209's I keep it that way.  I switched my CVA with the 209 plug/firing pin kit, and it performs way better.  Faster ignition, with less hang time helps me stay on the paper.   :twocents:
