My Infra red scares game
« on: January 30, 2021, 07:02:27 PM »
Just bought a Browning night vision infra red camera.  Nice camera but the multiple red dots turn on when it’s in video or still picture filming.  All the varmints see the lights and take off running.   I had over a dozen videos this week and as soon as they spotted the lights they high tailed it and didn’t come back.  Any advice?

How high up is it ? Most critters dont seem to pay much attention if they're up around 10 feet or so. some cams make noise when they trigger which also might be an issue

Give it time and they will get use to it.  And you said varmints in my experience varmints dont hang out for more than a picture or 2 in front of my cams they are always on the move.

Thanks for the advice.  I also thought about pointing the camera where it sees their rear ends when arriving.  I would get a head count for sure .   I’ll move it up higher too.  This camera does click like you said.

If you want a camera for coyotes, you need one of the blackout LED models.  Coyotes are super spooky about anything new and they will notice the red glow.  The fact that you said that it makes a click would take Browning completely off my "to buy" list.

FWIW- Primos has the brightest LED glow I've ever seen.  Primos is junk.

Put the videos on vimeo and post them up.  I enjoy the WTF is that look before they bolt.

I deer hunt back in New York for a month every year.
We put trail cams on the gut piles and get videos of all the things that come to the gut piles. Crows are generally the first to show up then foxes.
Most of the time fishers will come to it. It takes about four day for the coyotes to show up. When they see the red glow they take off really skiddish. After another three or so day they calm down and will feast on the guts.

We butcher our deer we shoot which is in the five to seven deer a year. We relpentish tid bits of blood shot meat, deer fat, we cut the bones with a sawzall to about four inches so they last longer.

There has been a redtail hawk eating off the pile as well.
Deer will sniff the pile and walk right by it.
