H4350 for .223 reloading?

my thoughts are this powder is way too slow in a .223.

Even with the heaviest for caliber bullets like the 90 grainers and stretched way out to give yourself as much usable case capacity as possible H4350 is just to slow for this application and I don't think you could get enough of it in the case to get up into usable operating pressures without causing yourself issue.

Same here, too slow.  Hodgdon's site doesn't even have any load data for the .223.  I don't know where you'd start.

If that is the only powder you have, I would start by offering it up for trade for another powder better suited for .223.  H4350 is very sought after and you could likely get a 2 to one trade as it is usually more expensive and harder to find than .223 powders.   

I would not load .223 with it though to answer your question.

Quite a few to pick out of....here is a list off Hodgkin s site for 55 grain pills.

25gr of H4350 will work with almost any weight flat base bullet in a 223. The load will be pretty compressed and the velocity will be around 2500-2550 fps in a 20" barrel with every bullet weight. It's a very low pressure load and might not cycle in a gas gun. Works great in single shots and bolt guns though.

I like either H335 or RE 7, both provide excellent results. With both 55 grain and 62 grain (ss109) projectiles

I would ask "what does the book show for a range of suitable powders"?  Usually there's a list in the book from fastest to slowest that will work for a given bullet weight.

I use A2230 and H4895 in my AR in 223 with 60 gr Vmax's

I mostly shoot lighter to mid weight bullets in my 223's or 223AI and Benchmark or H322 are my "go to" powders but there is a ton of powders that work well for the 223. 

There are some powders like Win748 or CFE223 that work well across the board from light to heavy bullets.  The first AR I had back in the mid 80's Win748 was the only powder I used with a variety of different brand and weight bullets and that old AR with Win748 and about any bullet I put through it loaded to whatever the book suggested shot as well as any I've had.  With all the new powders out and Win748 being an old ball powder it's not all that popular these days so it may be one of those powders you can find available and it does work very well in 223's with nearly all of the bullets weights.  Just be mindful to maybe stay below max load if you're working up a load in 20 degree temps and plan to shoot the same load when it's 100 degrees out because Win748 isn't a temp stable powder but then again many of them aren't.
