Youth shotgun shortage
« on: February 13, 2021, 11:54:28 AM »
Has anyone ever used a Benelli nova compact? I have a store that has 3 of them, and have been for sale for a while but it seems like every youth remmy or any other pump sells right away. Just wondering why they are still for sale

Probably price, if they are like me they don't want to spend any extra on a youth gun that is going to get dropped in the water and mud and then outgrown in a couple years.

I bought one for my girlfriend I’ve been searching for months and haven’t found any till now. Should be a great woman’s gun. I almost bought two for my future kid but I don’t have any yet so that’s like 10 year planning lmao

Roughly $100 more than an 870, give or take.  Not huge, but a factor.  I'll spend money on their full size hunting guns, but tend to shop price almost exclusively on their first.  Maybe I'm a wierdo.  Both my son's duck guns (single shot & pump) have been dunked in the salt and mud, it's just what kids do.

I made one for a friend that is 'small of stature'. Bought an aftermarket stock and cut 4" off of it. That way I had the original I could put back on. The gun itself was a 26" barreled (same length as a 'youth' model) standard length gun.
I did another that I cut off the stock but saved the piece and put it back on with a 'filler piece' added for the saw blade width. Yes, it had a 'ring' around the stock. Doweled it for extra strength. They were happy as it was the same gun they had been using for years.
Cuterebra are NOT cute!

That’s a good idea unfortunately after everything I’ve put my supernova through and what I’ve seen it handle and do I’m stuck with Benelli only shotguns for life and they have composite stocks

An addendum to that though as a word of caution:
Some guns have a protrusion down in the stock that limits how much you can take off.

Got to be aftermarket stocks you can get? Cheaper than getting another shotgun me thinks. Some of those can not be cut down as they are hollow, or have filler in them. Got to be careful about that too.

Easy enough, if I had to chose between one or the other, 870 all the way.

(Is it because that’s what many of us cut our teeth on, so we instantly think that)

Lol I can understand that about tradition but I swear by my supernova. They are ugly though for sure and plastic feeling but really strong workhorses. Super reliable after taking a beating. I’ve repainted my barrel a few times now from all the salt water I hunt in

Had a Supernova. Played with it one day with different brands, shot sizes and lengths of ammo all loaded together. Never jammed. Never failed to cycle. Never failed to fire. Gave (yes, gave) it to a very good friend that ADORED it for his birthday one year. He crapped himself. Amazing shotguns. It is still in use today.

Well, there's your difference between it and the 870!   :peep:
