Toyota Quality
« on: March 12, 2021, 10:29:38 AM »
Instead of hijacking the Highlander thread, I'll start my own to provide PROOF (or as Ben Shapiro would say 'Facts don't have feelings).
If you're a Biden voter, or just want to FEEL Toyota cars and trucks are amazing, this isn't the thread for you.

Let's proceed (Caution! This will trigger some of you!)
https://www.motorbiscuit.com/avoid-these-used-toyota-tacoma-models-unless-you-love-rust/

In November 2012, Toyota recalled 150,000 Tacomas from 2001–2004 for a rusted spare-tire carrier under the bed that could break and cause the tire to come loose. In 2008, Toyota’s infamous frame-rot fiasco on 1995–2004 Tacomas (about 800,000 trucks) was so bad the company had to buy many of them back, conduct extensive frame repairs, and/or extend frame-corrosion warranties by 15 years. The company never issued a recall for that problem.

Had a 2000 Tacoma TRD for 16 years that I tried my hardest to break, especially back in my younger days. (In high school we once jumped it over 80 feet, the landing caused the front of the bed to cave in the back of the cab quite a bit from the flex) definitely no frame rot in that bad boy  :chuckle:

My BIL did buy one a few years ago that had extensive frame rot covered up by a shotty dealership, certainly there are bad batches of almost any brand out there (you should see the amount of recalls you get in the mail for owning a Dodge!)

But there are also millions of absolutely bulletproof Toyotas out there that have withstood many many years of abuse that a vehicle should never have to withstand such as mine  :chuckle:

Yeah I was gunna say that most vehicles have a recall of some kind. You can find all the recalls for vehicles online. The 2020 Tacoma had 1 recall and the 2020 F150 had 9.

Hope you didn't want a truck when you bought it!

The Rago Fabrication Toyota Tundra Bed Channel Stiffeners solve a known problem that Tundra's acquire over time. If you have a camper shell, bed rack, or use your Tundra to off-road frequently, the rear sheet metal channels are known to crack overtime because of added stress and weight to the vehicle.

How many 'trucks' that fanboyz drool over have COLLAPSING FRAMES AND LEAF SPRINGS?

This isn't like the massager in the seat stopped working.

Notice the mandatory foglights for driving in traffic in the suburbs.
Whenever I see over-wattage blue LEDs scattering into oncoming traffic, it's a Toyota 'LOOK AT ME!' driver.

Certainly this is irrefutable proof that all Toyotas are garbage  :chuckle:

LEDs for vehicles are bright white.  Xenon bulbs are blue.

LEDs also have a tighter beam pattern than filaments.

If they shine in eyes, it’s an adjustment issue, simply adjust the housing as required by any bulb replacement other than like in kind.

I own a Tacoma. Care to share where I can get those ultra bright lights? Seems to me, it is a pain in the azz to change out my current stock lights to LEDs. Mine is a 2006 stock model.

Oh- lighten up a bit.

I have to be honest, I have never owned a Toyota.
I do own a 2016 Nissan Frontier, and after test driving all of the available midsized trucks in 2018. The Honda Ridgeline was "by far the most comfortable", best layed out ergonomically, and with the most current accessories.
I thought the worst driving and most gutless was the Tacoma. The Brand new Toyota's transmission was a shifting nightmare and was gutless compared to the 2016 Nissan.
(not that the Nissan changed much in the previous 10 years)
But The Tacoma was the best looking truck in the bunch.
I bought the Nissan because it was third best driving, behind the Chev ZR2
and the Honda (the base line Chevy/GMC were not close but ahead of the Toyota). The New Ford Ranger was a tie for third.
These are opinions and are totally subjective.
And I am not saying the Tacoma is bad vehicle, and if the Leaf Springs are the only things to worry about? They would still be a very good truck.

Honestly, what is beyond belief, is that people pay $40k + for any of these trucks, when two years later you can get them with low miles for 1/2 that much. Except the Toyota which was an easy 10K more.

I personally do not think they are worth 10K more, but that is the market, and people are paying it.

None of the above are worth 40K +

I have a bed rack and offroad frequently with my 2017 Tundra Crewmax.  I also tow a boat and a trailer quite frequently.   I've put thousands of miles on "trails" in the Mt. Shasta mountain range still zero issues.   :dunno:

Nice honest assessment.
Speaking of Ridgeline, I still laugh when I read this and post to all the Toyota Fanboyz who can't stop talking about what an amazing vehicle Toyota makes:

If this road could bring the TRD Off-Road package and its Bilstein monotube shocks to its knees, what could this possibly mean for the Ridgeline, a truck many are quick to write off as a poseur, a crossover masquerading in truck's clothing?

We rolled under the Ridgeline for a look and to our surprise the right rear shock looked ... reasonably OK. There was no sign of overheating of any kind, no residue of an oily explosion, and the rubber dust boot was fully intact. A small damp patch of oil indicated it had leaked a little bit, but it still appeared to be functional. As for the left rear, it looked 100 percent fine.

Against all expectations, it seemed the Ridgeline had just kneed the Tacoma TRD Off-Road package in the groin.
