Lake Lenore
« on: March 16, 2021, 01:27:27 PM »
Headed over this weekend - any recent trip reports?  Taking the kids and thinking about looking for some local haunts for some bait fishing as well. Maybe the docks in Coulee city or something like that.  Any advice is appreciated on both fronts - never fished Lenore and never bank fished Banks

Are you fly fishing Lenore?

Report I read about a week ago said Lenore was slow-ish, but fishers were catching enough 18"+  Lahontan Cutthroats to keep things interesting.

Do you know what they were using?  Seems like the majority of what I see is slow stripping woolly buggers or soaking black chironomids under indicators.

Chironomids. Try to stay awake.

I’ve wondered how it was since the big Russian poaching ring thing happened.

I was wondering the same.

Those guys dredged a lot of trout out for there.

Little Pathfinder and I hit it last weekend.  Was warm, sunny and calm (historically, I have not done well on Lenore under those conditions).  Was slow all day until the last hour of daylight.  Both nights we picked up fish on big (like size 4 and 6), black sparkle leaches dragging them through the shallows on the north end.  Some guys picked up a few on chronimids during the day, but mostly it was slow.  Fish until it is pitch dark.  We were picking up fish until late.

Little Pathfinder hooked a fish and fell and busted his face on a rock.  Blood everywhere, but he landed the fish.

FYI; No small fish at all.  The smallest we caught was still over 20 inches.  Cutts in Lenore are all pretty good fish, but usually you can count on picking up a couple in that 15-17 inch range.  Seemed like fewer fish than normal, but bigger.
NO hatches by the way.  Hardly saw a rise all day.  Water was about 47 degrees.

The lake has never really recovered from that.  It was a while ago, so I am not sure why.  Local guys seem to think that WDFW just hasn't made it a priority.  I did notice that signs up all over the lake are written in 3 languages now:  English, Spanish and Russian....

Love the wound and the fact that it didn't slow him down.
