Knife restoration
« on: April 24, 2009, 04:12:44 PM »
I have my Dad's old Case knife he inherited from his step dad after he died.  He let me borrow it one hunting trip and I havnt returned it yet.  He wont know it is missing until next hunting season so I was thinking that I might get it cleaned up for him.  It has a lot of sentimental value and I dont want to send it to just anybody.  Do you guys know someone that does this kind of thing?  I could just run a buffer over it but I would rather someone that know what they are doing.

Rainshadow if this is something you would be interested in I would have no reservations about sending it to you.  I just dont know if your into resto's or not.

Have you considered that the patina that the knife has is something that your dad may really like about it?  If it was MY knife, I would not want it restored.  My original hunting knife is an Old Timer, and the blood stains on each blade are to me one of the things I appreciate about that knife.  It never fails to get me reminiscing about 'the sunny slopes of long ago' whenever I get it out and look at it.  If someone restored it, I'd be pretty upset about it....I have plenty of shiny knives....but only one aged Old Timer....

Don't get me wrong, I appreciate your intent, just something to consider...

jeff has a point.

I've got an old knife that i want to restore as well. I already screwed it up when I was younger so i have no such reservations.

grampa told me that my great great grampa used the knife to skin an alligator.
"Right now, I am thinking that If my grandmother was here, she would be lecturing me about how there are poor people in Africa, that would just love to have a Ruger, I would just say "Great, granny, lets just ship all the Rugers to Africa!"

It sounds like it's time to get a new gun.
