Help with hunting clothing for my 2 girls.
« on: May 16, 2021, 06:37:51 AM »
My 2 girls passed hunters safety this yr and will be rifle hunting elk/deer.  I want them to be COMFORTABLE in the likely wet conditions we face here in Oct/Nov.  They're ages 13 (5'1 and skinny) and 10 (short and stocky)We've got the boots already covered.  I'm mostly concerned with a very waterproof or water resistant pant.  Was looking at the KUIU attack youth pant, but not sure how water resistant they are, does anybody have experience with the Attack pant in wet conditions?  What about their Rubicon jacket?  I may end up going Sitka cyclone line, but curious about any others.  Thanks guys!

I’d head down to the REI in Portland. They’ll have good quality stuff & your girls can wear it for things other than hunting.

Before you do that hit up your local goodwill. I often find that kind of clothing for my kids there this time of year as people do spring cleaning. You may not find what your looking for but I have found some very nice coats and rain pants for my kids there in the past.

Attack isn’t gonna stay dry in wet underbrush or going through brush or getting rained on.

Not really a fan of REI, my girls have other gear.  Looking strictly hunting.  I'd rather stick with a hunting company that supports hunting.

Look at MilSurp clothing on Ebay.
They make it in so many different sizing combos.

I got a lot at thrift and g-sales for my crew, but one thing I bought retail was soft raingear. Not the most expensive I could find, but dry, mesh lined, and quiet. Got it big, so other clothes could go underneath. But MAN was that worth it! Kept the attitude good on dry kids where I guarantee it wouldn't have been so pleasant out of the mouths of soaking shivering kids!

Have a look at King's camo, they probably have the best selections of camouflage gear for kids and women of anyone out there and they also have lots of sales.  Make sure you check out what's available in their closeouts.

I have found the kuiu Axis hybrid pants to be a good compromise between rain pants a breathable non waterproof pants.

Basically selected panels are waterproof (seat, front panels, etc)

Stay away from cotton. Wool or blend socks, neck gators, beanies, thermal first layer, fleece and a puffy, hiking high tops.

My girls go out with me and my main goal is keep them warm and comfortable…. Sometimes I try and keep them quiet. 😆
