Put in for what ever you want...nothing says you can't put in next year with 18

If I was moving to Montana, I'm pretty sure Washington wouldn't be getting any more money..... but that does bring up a good question, what's it cost for a non resident to apply for permits   Maybe keep playing WaLotto for a good tag?

A non-resident elk license is about $500.

If I recall the apps were around $145?   Anyone look?

Wouldn't you have to buy a non-resident tag to apply too? As a resident, you have to buy a tag and specific and I would assume the same to be true for non-residents. Sound like it would pretty expensive to apply with the non-resident license, tag and app fee, without any money being refunded. Like others have said, switch to archery and go for one of the easier tags to draw. When I move out of this hell hole of a liberal cesspool, WDFW won't get one more single cent from me.

He would need to buy a license to apply for elk. The license includes a tag.

It depends on the tag he wants and his odds....but realistically he could draw alot of tags over the next few years...that would be worth the price

Need to look at the tag, the odds, the cost...compare that to other states & your budget

Now if he had zero points he would be much better off putting the non resident cost of applying into a index fund every year and see what's in that account after 20 years and just buying a tag

Your points have no value. They were a lotto ticket. You paid for a chance to win a tag. Thats it. Accept this fact, burn your tag and dive head first into the glory which is resident MT hunting and fishing  :twocents:
Pretty much spot on.   Don’t look back.

We are debating semantics I guess. You can buy a license without buying a tag. I was just clarifying that you have to buy a hunting license, a specific elk tag and then an application for the special draws. Regardless, I think you are talking about over $600 all in as a non-resident. With the quality here versus other western states, I would spend my money elsewhere. Like Karl said, don't look back once you hit that state line

No refunds here either if you don’t draw.

But don't forget you can turn your permit in and get your 17 non-resident points back. :chuckle:

Moved to Montana and want to use up my Washington points, I have 17 points and have an eastern muzzy tag. any suggestions?
They really aren’t worth anything.  Less than 5% draw odds or worse.

Expensive but non-residents are in the same hat so no limit on how many of the tags they can draw.
