Fishing Lake Cle Elum
« on: May 23, 2021, 09:50:59 AM »
My friend and I are trying to plan a trip to fish Lake Cle Elum and wondering if anyone has some answers to a couple questions.  First, there's already a thread going on about launching a boat here.  My plan was to try and launch my 15.5' Gregor at Speelyi, will that work?  Next, we were planning on targeting Kokanee.  If I'm reading the regs correctly, you can keep Kokanee from 9-15".  Are there any kokanee in this size range since they've stopped planting the lake due to the sockeye restoration?  We might also try to jig for Lake Trout.

I'm pretty inexperienced when it comes to fishing.  Thank you for the help. Any pointers would be much appreciated.

Tagging.  Interested in lake trout strategy, I’ve tried it once there and struck out.

Never fished it but you should have no problem launching your boat. I would how ever pay attention to the weather. If it’s going to be super windy I would not advise in a small boat. It can get pretty nasty out there.

I started the boat launch post. People were launching from speelyi but I launched from Bell Creek. Seemed like both would work.

As for lakers, we struck out. Didn't help that we left the herring at home. We were marking them, pretty sure we were getting jigs in front of them, added scent, powerbait, etc. and not a single bite.

Should have left early Sunday when it was windy when we woke up. Ended up having quite a sketchy day getting all our camping gear back to the launch in a 14' boat. Also, if anyone finds a cast iron skillet on the west side of the lake it's mine. I'll be back for it  :chuckle:

Fished it today. Caught one Kokanee. Fun time. I got pretty stoked when I found a cast iron pan, titanium tent stake, and a nice quality spoon! Turns out it’s yours though haha. PM your phone number and I’ll get it back to you.

That's funny. Looks like that borrowed cast iron did a great job on that kokanee!
