This 7 point was taken by my dad's brother out of the SouthEast Corner of Washington. He drew the same tag about 4 years ago and bagged a Royal. He is an excellent hunter and lucky on the draws, but I can't get him to buy any new high tech Cabelas hunting clothes. As you can see he is wearing surplus button fly wool pants, a Viet Nam shirt, and a generic hat. They just don't match with the Sworo Binos and 340 Synthetic Weatherby. He is wearing Danner Trophy boots which Dad sold him on, which is an upgrade. I'll post his photos if you rag about his clothing on this site. He has millions in the bank, and hasn't bought me a Christmas present for quite a few years. Shame on him! Anyhow, he hit this beast at 300 yards with a 200 grain Barnes face on down hill through the back and lungs. Remember this is a 340 Weatherby. An hour later he tracks the trail around a tree and finds him broadside at 30 yards. Bang! Through the boiler room. Doesn't flinch. Re-chambers, and bangs another through the crank case. Finally bellys-up.

Please excuse my error. He has a Duck hunting pattern shirt on today. However, his Nam Camo matched the pants better. We still love you Vinnie.

I love those wool surplus pants. Right up to the time they hang up on a barbwire fence. Then they just peel in a nice big strip. But for $5-$15 bucks, you can afford a bunch of replacements.

Very nice elk thanks for posting!!! Congrats to him. That isn't one of those hard to draw SE Watershed tags is it?

Great Bull! How in the HE double hockey sticks did he manage to pull 2 LE bull tags in 4 years? I've been trying to pull ONE of those for 12 years since I moved to WA.
Anyway congrats to your Uncle, but sorry man, I can't hack him on his pants, I've been wearing woolies like that since I was 18.

It wasn't the Watershed area. I'm not very familiar with those elk units, but he was off the Grande Ronde River someplace if that helps. I do know that the land he hunted on for the earlier six point a few years ago was leased out and he had to knock on some doors to find access again. He spoke quite highly of the land owner who actually helped guide him. I understand he gave half the Elk to them which was great thing to do. A practice we should all consider to sustain good relations for future generations of hunters who need access. On another note, I can live with the wool pants, but a red and black plaid shirt with suspenders would be more put together. Then tuck the pants into the top of some high red banded wool socks for the total old school package. Ditch the synthetic baseball cap.

To heck with his choice in outdoor fashion. Just goes to show, it is all about knowledge. Not everyone is enamored with the thousands of choices you have, when the wise ol'timers know what really matters. Someone posted old school. I guess I better go back to class
. Sweet bull, and thanks for posting the pics.

Congrats! Great looking bull!! Obviously, this guy knows what he is doing. Who cares how he dresses. Since when did it become necessary to be fashion conscientious while elk hunting? I say Git-R-Done!

Since when did it become necessary to be fashion conscientious while elk hunting? I'd say the day I bought stock in Cabelas and UnderArmor. Now get out there, buy some new threads, and make me some more money. I love money! Money and Hunting! Money, Hunting, and Painting! I love painting Elk and Deer with "Redmist".

I must concur with the general consensus of my colleagues regarding the latest in forest fashion: Belgian army woolies are fine and sadly, out of stock, not style. The bull is a real beauty!
On another note, your message does not do justice to the taking of such a fine trophy with the pictures appearing to have been posted in spite, rather than pride. The reference to your "dad's brother" reflects your total lack of respect for what the rest of society refers to as ones uncle. It is of no wonder you are left off his Christmas list. I'd also wager you are not named in his estate either as no one has heard of inheriting a fortune from a "rich dad's brother."
What is intriguing about this posting is that I believe the person submitting it is not whom they pass themself off to be, but is in reality the brother of the man in the pictures mascarading as an insolent kid.
Come on "Redmist," are you so envious and contemptuous of your brother that you have to stoop to publically ridiculing him the way you do? It doesn't take a Scotland Yard detective to identify your sarcastic style of writing- especially since you've even chosen to answer someone's reply with the little knowledge you probably possess concerning the hunt...and under your own username nonetheless! If you actually have a son, which I may have seen in some of your other ramblings in the Deer Forum, he must be absolutely humiliated by your less-than-courageous attack. That's like breaking wind and blaming the dog!
And since I haven't seen any replies posted by anyone whom I would profile as an upset brother, I'd guess he probably doesn't even know you've ripped off his photos and belittled him the way you have. No "Redmist," the shame is on you!

I like that "Drknow", or "BrotherVinnie". About time you got on this great forum and started posting some good stuff. If it wasn't for the stiff humored British act, I could think that some nutcase was trying to get himself 86'ed on his first posting for publicly slapping me accross the face with a white glove. Quite Right! Quite Right! By the way, we have an unused pair of Cabela's Microtec pants, and Revolution Fleece pants, size 34", in Outfitter Camo that you can have for your Montana Moose Hunt this weekend. If you like them, maybe you can put the kid back in the Will? OK, OK, I'll throw in the couple of pairs of British Wools that are aging in the bottom of the dresser. Enough of this Rubbish. Let's have a Toddy.
