Funky antler
« on: June 01, 2021, 01:53:31 PM »
I got this guy on camera the other day and it looks like his antler is almost growing out of his eye socket. Guessing he must have been hit by a car or something at some point.

Elk with hoof rot can produce some really odd antler growth.

Definitely a broken pedicle that rehealed in the wrong spot. Possibly because the old antler made it fall forward while it was healing then fell off and this year's antler started growing. I have seen this before from falling while running or fighting another big bill (car strikes, mostly on deer). He might have poor bone density. If it was a break you would think that section of his skull floating around afterwards could give him brain damage. He must have his somewhere in a dark place while he healed up. :dunno:
