Good 45 ish qt cooler that doesn’t weigh 146 pounds?
« on: June 04, 2021, 09:26:21 AM »
In the market for a smaller cooler for general purpose use. Probably don’t want a rotomolded cooler just to save on the weight factor. I’ve got an RTIC 65 and a bigger white igloo marine cooler. Looking for something around 45 quarts that doesn’t weigh a ton. Mostly my wife goes on trips and hates the weight of the RTIC and the igloo is too big. What’s good and not a boat anchor?
Thanks in advance.

A 45qt igloo marine, but check out soft bags too.

Always thought about a tuna bag but $$$$

:yeah: or a soft sided one if you want to be a cool kid.  Wallys has some reasonable priced ones.

Fish bags usually end up leaking a bit because the sides are sewn shut vs a one piece liner like the soft coolers.  No biggie in a boat but no bueno in a vehicle.

I’ve got a soft sided RTIC 30. It’s an oversized can cooler.

The shape of fish bags also sucks for camping food but is great for fish.  They tip over very easily as well and are about impossible to move when loaded, similar to when you have to carry your sleeping 8 year old from the car to their bed.

Why not the Rtic Lightweight 52qt that weighs 21lbs? $179.99. I don't notice a big difference efficiency as far as holding ice compared to my other rotomolds.

It’s definitely high on the list. My holdback is it’s not much smaller than the 65. So you have one and you like it? I haven’t seen one in person.

Road trip cooler. Take salad and BYOB to friends for BBQ. Backup camping cooler. Smaller cooler for girls trips. That kind of thing. My wife can’t hardly lift the RTIC 65 on her own if it’s moderately full of stuff. So 2 smaller coolers is the idea. The 30 for drinks and small stuff and this one.

Spend the money on getting your wife a gym membership.  :chuckle:

I have a small igloo marine that works great for what you are looking for

I have one of these, made in Oregon.  Costco had it for $150, not sure if they will ever get more in or not.

I kind of think your Rtic Lite is going to be your best bet if you don't like the soft coolers.
